The Hallouburger…

This burger sandwich is very special as it combines the culinary ingredients of my two homes… Halloumi from the east, burger from the west. I actually started doing the Hallouburger this summer, while grilling by Kent lake. And it really worked out… It deviates from the traditional american/swiss/provolone cheese… and it definitely takes your taste buds for a right down the taste lane. It is relatively easy to make.

My favorite ingredients (per Hallouburger):

  • Aged Halloumi, by preference Lysiotiko, as it is my favorite. Some people prefer the fresh, but the saltiness and scent of the aged is unbeatable.
  • Beef patty
  • Bun, by preference whole grain
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Onion
  • Salt

Preparing:

Grill the beef patty to preference. Bear in mind that grilling Halloumi does not require as much time as the patty so plan accordingly when to put it on the grill. I take mine off as soon as it feels soft and has acquired a light brown color. Once they are grilled place them on the bun, at the lettuce, onion, and tomato. If you require some more saltiness at some salt on the tomato. Beware though, halloumi is salty by nature. Finally you can have a side if desired, my choice would be baked potato.

Finally you can take that ride down the taste lane. To complement it, enjoy some nice wheat beer, but let the Halloumi control the ride…

Here are a few pictures of the Hallouburger… you just cannot wait to eat it…

You should create an organisation named HIA. HIA stands for Halloumi Investigation Agency. The Agency will do investigations for the halloumi all around the world. It’s members must be Cypriots that will taste halloumi and rate it. The winner will get a Kg of Lysiotiko halloumi to taste THE ORIGINAL HALLOUMI! :-)

Spaghetti

On Saturday I was making spaghetti with my 2,5 year son! :-) . My son wanted to help me to prepare the food.   I gave him a lysiotiko halloumi to grate it.  He was doing it perfectly!  Then he helped me prepare the spaghetti (actually it was spaghettini – thinner than spaghetti).  Try spaghetti (or spaghettini) with grated lysiotiko halloumi and you will remember my post! :-) Bon Apetit!

Official launch with a quick lunch

January 25th, 2009 marks the official launch of Lysiotiko-Halloumi.com. This site is dediacated to the memory of Lysi and to the Halloumi, crafted the Lysi way, aka Lysiotiko Halloumi. While working to put everything together I totally forgot to go and get even lunch… so what a better way to celebrate the launch of the site… a quick lunch with Lysiotiko Halloumi of course…

Ingredients: 2 eggs, 1 can of chunk tuna, 3 slices of Lysiotiko Halloumi.

Spread them on a plate, sprinkle some lemon on the tuna, salt on the eggs, and eat then in any order you like, or all three at once!

You might be wondering why all the fuss about Lysiotiko Halloumi… Well because you haven’t experienced the ultimate taste of Halloumi unless you tasted the Lysiotiko Halloumi…

Still more work to be done…
