Hallouburger
The Hallouburger…
This burger sandwich is very special as it combines the culinary ingredients of my two homes… Halloumi from the east, burger from the west. I actually started doing the Hallouburger this summer, while grilling by Kent lake. And it really worked out… It deviates from the traditional american/swiss/provolone cheese… and it definitely takes your taste buds for a right down the taste lane. It is relatively easy to make.
My favorite ingredients (per Hallouburger):
- Aged Halloumi, by preference Lysiotiko, as it is my favorite. Some people prefer the fresh, but the saltiness and scent of the aged is unbeatable.
- Beef patty
- Bun, by preference whole grain
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Onion
- Salt
Preparing:
Grill the beef patty to preference. Bear in mind that grilling Halloumi does not require as much time as the patty so plan accordingly when to put it on the grill. I take mine off as soon as it feels soft and has acquired a light brown color. Once they are grilled place them on the bun, at the lettuce, onion, and tomato. If you require some more saltiness at some salt on the tomato. Beware though, halloumi is salty by nature. Finally you can have a side if desired, my choice would be baked potato.
Finally you can take that ride down the taste lane. To complement it, enjoy some nice wheat beer, but let the Halloumi control the ride…
Here are a few pictures of the Hallouburger… you just cannot wait to eat it…
